Washing system (CIP) in milk industry (JSC Rigas Piensaimnieks)

Used controller: FESTO FC 640 un OMRON E5CK.

This automation system is established for the purpose of ensuring washing of production line at "ILLIG" Company (intended for milk products proportioning and packing), as well as of a product feeding line. On the basis of this solution, also a system for automated washing of pipelines at milk acceptance stations is implemented. Notwithstanding the difference in tasks, number of devices being controlled, and algorithms of washing, that system basically is a copy of the described one. This CIP system is established for the purpose of ensuring automated washing of production line at "ILLIG" Company (intended for milk products proportioning and packing), as well as of a product feeding line. On the basis of this solution, also a system for automated washing of pipelines at milk acceptance stations is implemented. Our CIP system for automated washing also is adapted for resolving similar tasks.

This CIP system for automated washing is implemented according to the following block-diagram:

The automated control system is installed in a power cabinet of stainless steel from Rittal Co. (600 x 750 x 250 mm) in IP65 version.

From the operator's panel, the following operation modes can be set and the following processes ensured:

  1. Manual control mode. Checking serviceability of individual devices, and controlling them from the operator's panel.
  2. Automated control mode. In this mode, the necessary control program is selected. The program is started by an operator, and automatically ends upon its completion. In case of necessity, an operator can stop execution of the program.
  3. Programming mode. It is possible to make corrections in any of 9 control programs:
    1. washing of "Illig" line with phosphate (at 90°C)
    2. rinsing of "Illig" line (at 40°C)
    3. washing of "Illig" line with acid and alkali (at 70°C)
    4. disinfection of "Illig" line (at 95°C)
    5. washing of the line with phosphate (at 90°C)
    6. washing of the line with acid (at 70°C)
    7. cold disinfection of the line
    8. hot disinfection of the line (at 90°C)
    9. washing of the line with alkali (at 70°C)
  4. Servicing mode. It helps to check serviceability of automatic devices.
    This system provides for outputting an alarm signal and blocking any further operations in the following cases:
    1. A corresponding motor or pump failed to operate;
    2. Overload of motors;
    3. Improper sequence of level sensors operation;
    4. The necessary temperatures are not ensured.

Both the system's hardware and software can be easily adapted to resolving similar tasks, ie. controlling pumps and valves according to algorithms comprised of individual steps. Also, a number of programs can be selected according to a customer's needs. For heating water, temperature regulator OMRON E5CK is used. The values of required temperatures, as well as durations of performing the separate steps of program can be set by an operator or technical personnel from the panel installed on the face side of the cabinet. The set parameters are retained at switching power supply off. To start and stop the programs, and operator is not required to perform any complicated operations and continuously stay at the control panel, and it is rather important in milk industry enterprises' conditions.

It is possible to monitor this CIP system for automated washing through Internet, to this end using the Ethernet protocol.
